Mumford stability and its ramifications

M.S. Narasimhan, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research and Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (cartel)

7 de septiembre, 2012, 12:00 h., Aula Naranja ICMAT

Abstract

The main theme of the lecture will be the notion of stabilty, originally introduced by Mumford in his work on Geometric Invariant Theory and moduli problems in algebraic geometry.Surprisingly this notion of stability appears in several areas of mathematics: Algebraic and differential geometry, number theory, partial differential equations and physics . I will explain the general notion of stability, how it appears in these fields and also how it leads to interaction between them.
