Sums for Divergent Series: A Tauberian Adventure

Peter Duren, University of Michigan y UAM (póster)

Viernes 11 de octubre, Departamento de Matematicas, aula 520, 12:00

Abstract. The point of departure for this expository talk is a problem that appeared in the Puzzles Column of a Newsletter from the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute in Berkeley, California. The problem asks about the behavior of a particular power series near the circle of convergence. We will discuss the background of the problem and present material on Tauberian theorems leading to its unexpected solution. Most of the talk will be accessible to undergraduate students with knowledge of advanced calculus.
