“Adjoint methods for nonlinear partial differential equations”
Resumen:
In this expository talk I will first recall why it is often important to
consider the adjoint operator associated with a given linear operator equation,
for example a linear PDE.
I will then
explain that if we want to study certain nonlinear PDE, it is equally important
to study the adjoint of the linearization. I will present examples from optimal
control, weak KAM theory, and nonconvex Hamilton-Jacobi equations.
